The Subway is a beautiful and peaceful place, it contributes to growing of “underground people” culture. There is the longest Art Gallery in Stockholm subway, which is very impressive.
Reason № 2. Economic
The Subway is an efficient place. We can’t do anything without State subsidy, but it is possible to cover all the costs if there is a big passenger traffic. It would take you only 16 minutes to get to Kommunar district from Oktiabyr’skaya square. Try to do this by taxi. How many line-taxis do we need to carry 1000 people through the city center during the rush hour?

The Metro is the special status of the city. It is expensive and prestigious. Our city is not a capital yet, but it is not the provinces any more. Dnepropetrovsk should grow!

The Dnieper rapids were flooded with the water of a storage basin only in 1927. By that time this stone barrier on the way to the Black Sea played a key part in navigation, trade, settling by the river, appearance of new useful arts as well as various kinds of activity. The first rapids could be found near the present day village Starye Kodaki – and were called Kodak rapids. As it was difficult to navigate through this section of the Dnieper, a new speciality of a pilot appeared. The former pilots’ settlement has been preserved; and its name is Lotsmanskaya Kamenka and it is situated in the south-east part of the city.

From the 1st of October the world community celebrates Day of Music.
Following the tradition that very evening Dnepropetrovsk opera lifts the scenic curtain. The play “Duke Igor” will be the first to perform at the beginning of the 36th theater season. It is a good fortune to see this performance. Great opera-ballet staging needs a lot of expenses. So we can say for sure it is worth to visit.

We have a lot of exhibits, but what’s a pity we do not have place for this unusual establishment.
Dnepropetrovsk poet, publicist and scientist Mikhail Aroshenko roused the interest of people with his stunning proposal to open Museum of Love in our city something like Museum of Romeo and Juliet built in Italy.
This temple of such a great feeling should be located exactly on “Monastyrskiy island”, where townspeople and guests of our city started having romantic meetings, making wedding and family films long ago.
According to the poet idea the museum should be decorated with plates, bricks and coins with poems devoted to love, promising of young couples and curses after divorce.

Monastyrskiy (Conventual) Island is one of the most romantic and attractive sites in Dnepropetrovsk. Several unproved and mysterious stories are connected to the island. For the first time it was mentioned in the Hagiography of St. Theodosius, as the northernmost point, which was reached by St. Andrew, one of the Disciples of Christ spreading Christianity. The name itself Conventual Island is said to proceed from the Byzantine convent built there in IX century. Princess Olga stopped here to look for a shelter during a severe storm on her way to Tsargrad in 957, the Kievan prince Vladimir the Great visited this place when his troops moved to Korsoun’ (the Chersonese). This place was visited by other famous people.

In one or two years there will be much more green areas in Dnepropetrovsk region.
It is expected that in two years Dnepropetrovsk region will have 10 000 hectares of new afforestation. The Head of Dnepropetrovsk regional state administration Viktor Bondar’ informed about it.
Regional authorities set a goal to plant trees and gardens in the territory of the region. This year we have already handed some tractors and other forest-planting machines to the forestry. We have a plan to hand 14 items of special equipment to the forestry workers by their professional day. Also the governor noted that there is a big problem in our region connected with forest fires. So regional authority decided to buy fire-fighting equipment.
As IA “Novy Most” (New Bridge) informed earlier, 165 forest fires have been registered in Dnepropetrovsk region since 2009.

Dnepropetrovsk (Dnipropetrovs’k – in Ukrainian, or simply Dnieper, as it is called by the local town dwellers) is in the middle course of the river Dnieper in the central part of Ukraine. Its population is 1,016 million (June, 2009).
The center of Dnepropetrovsk agglomeration (Dnepropetrovsk, Dneprodzerzhynsk, Novomoskovsk, Podgorodnoye) makes more than 1,3 million inhabitants. It is one of the most beautiful cities of Ukraine.

Dolphinarium opened in Dnepropetrovsk
Pros and cons
Dolphinarium was opened in September, 12 in Dnepropetrovsk. Three Black Sea bottle-nosed dolphins inhabit it. These dolphins are said to entertain children of the city as well as their parents at least during this year. Representatives of animal protection societies, however, deprecate aqua-shows of such kind. They assure the public that keeping mammals in such conditions is inhumane.
Dnepropetrovsk dolphinarium is an inflatable marquee, placed in the Central Park.
It seats 800 spectators and has a pool of approximately 1000 m3. The opening day of the dolphinarium was marked with a protest action. To inform the public about the conditions the mammals are kept in, the participants of the protest action organized some kind of a show.
